Post subject: | Opinions on an idea please |
Hi folks, My idea is to fit a momentary kill switch on my 1125r next to my clutch hand (on the bars) to act as a quick shifter without using the clutch for the drag strip. I don't know myself but it seems (with my understanding of what they do) that it may work just as well. I don't mean air shifting, just quick shifting without using the clutch. Anyone got any opinions on whether this will work or not? Thanks in advance. JB |

Only ridden an 1125 (CR) once. What's it like shifting with just momentary reduction of throttle with no use of clutch? Do realise of course that you're wanting to stay on the throttle as much as possible. |

It will change with a drop in revs pretty easily (on the whole), but sometimes stumbles to select (or I stumble to select). As you say staying on the throttle is where I could save 10ths which over four gears is nearly half a second (which can inevitably be undone on start time) which is another problem. I'm reckoning a momentary kill switch will bring other problems like keeping the front wheel down, but just want to try what I can before my next go. Thanks again. JB |

TOPGUMM wrote: How many times will you be changing gear in quarter mile. Last time I was only getting to high third, once to fourth, getting to fourth was a much better idea but with the exhaust (Remus) & ECM to suit, the power band was too far up the rev range 5 to 10 thou. The new exhaust brings power from 2.5 to 8.5 thou which should work much better. Hoping to hit high fourth maybe even fifth next time, but I don't know to be honest, it will only be my 2nd time when I go next time. |

gusm2 wrote: Air shifters like the one I have (air over air) do have an air fed ignition splitter, which kills it for a couple of milliseconds when you hit the shift button and ram on the shift lever is activated, but that happens with WOT, not sure how you would make it work using your foot to change gear, and as for launching it won't help with that. Hi gusm2, Hmmm, not really sure regarding (air over air) & ram on the shift lever or WOT means. Yeah, launching is certainly another matter altogether. Nothing is as easy as it would seem, that's for sure & no time for anything but getting off the line, hanging on, keeping it straight & changing gear. Sounds easy but it really, really isn't at all. That pic's a bloody launch, (Nice bike & pic) it would've stopped my heart, re-coloured my seat or both with extras. Hopefully see you there at some point. JB |

Hi, WOT -wide open throttle, air over air as opposed to electric over air is how the pneumatic ram connected to the shift lever is controlled. Mine has pipes from the air tank to the button on the bars that go to the ignition splitter which is pressure operated. The other has a button with wires going to an electronic splitter. So basically I watch the shift light which is set at 6300 rpm and press the button each time it lights I've got a slow motion video that you can see the gear change happen with both feet off the pegs, I'll see if I can upload it ![]() |

I get it now, saw a variety when I was down there on other peoples bikes, heard compressors running etc. Thanks for sharing the different types for me. ![]() I think what I spend & type I get will depend on my next runs after I can see what difference the exhaust makes over the 1/4 mile and if my times spur me on to this stage of upgrade. Got to say though, watching for a light to change gear seems a lot easier than trying to get it right manually as getting the millisecond timing correctly with a simple switch are minimal. So thanks for clearing that up also (without calling me a dick). ![]() The 13.5 second runs are like the quickest & the longest time ever, at the same time. ![]() ![]() Littlebutquick did 10.6 with manual clutch & gearing with a T/H1 & ECM, if I could get anywhere under 13.5 with the T/H2 & ECM I'll be happy for the moment, unfortunately I know that won't last. Thanks again. JB |
