Hi everyone
Has anyone had experiance dealing with hammer performance I orded a 1275 big bore kit for my old X1 because it was using a lot of oil, paid the extra $40 to have the pistons matched and fitted to the barrels and rings gapped. Reground the valves and fitted new seals fitting was easy but oil consumption was massive a pint in less than a 1000 miles so stripped the motor down again. All the ring gaps are massive and in the wrong place, I can fit a .020" gauge down the side of the piston Its been over a week and they havent replied to any of my emails. I am feeling totaly ripped of by Wanker Performance.

Rings 'walk', so the gaps will move, but it sounds like someone's not done their job.
They've either given you the wrong barrels, or the wrong pistons & rings... have you measured them and done the sums to ascertain which?

The pistons look undersize and with no reply from them it looks like they don’t care, I’ve ordered oversize pistons for the old barrels then I can junk there shit. It’s not worth the money for an extra 6 to 8BHP. overindulged

Cripes that's a lot of money to write off. Worth calling them in the morning? I know businesses change (always for the worse) but Aaron Wilson and Dan Norlin used to have a good reputation. Who will you use to bore the standard cylinders? Not easy finding someone who will do that properly for you.

Regarding response to e-mails. You wouldn't have heard back this past week. They've all been at Bonneville Salt Flats. They'll be back today most likely and will catch you up. I see no reason for them to not stand by their work.

I've installed a dozen 1050 kits from Hammer over the past five years onto older non-FI models but not a 1275. Every one had the pistons and rings matched and they measured good. A real shame that this particular set looks like it does.

I'd never met Dan Norlin but Aaron Wilson and I go back 20 years. It's mostly Dan and his team doing the work. Aaron is not as involved as he used to be. He's more developmental and on the tech side and programming of machinery. But If I'm going to trust anyone with a Buell in their hands, it's Aaron. But as I said, he's not involved in the day-to-day anymore.

Another fellow racer I've known 20 years had Aaron at NRHS, before the Hammer days, bore his cases for larger spiggots and added a 4.063" bore to his 9R so he could run in the 1350 class. A bunch of other magic and he was pushing 190 RWHP which got him over 180 mph consistently at over 4000 ft on a pretty slippery surface.

They actually make good stuff. I had a few early 1050 kits for an X1 and a S2T with no issues. I raced that X1 in heavyweight sportsman class against Monsters and SVs for many years. And they did a 3.69" piston kit for another X1 so I could race the 1350 class at Bonneville as well.

Thanks for the insight.......noted. In my weird dreams lOl , I’m actually inclined towards a special stroker conversion with custom made rods for my 9 to make a 1074cc (a sort of XB11 hybrid), but forged pistons of any size are probably more important. According to Maz these are the bits that break on XB9s! :?

I assume the barrels were bored correctly using compression plates? Most places don't do this, or have the correct kit for these barrels. As Rik says, rings move around, so the gaps don't stay where you installed them. Hence the use of pins to stop this happening on 2 strokes, and the rings getting eaten by the ports.

A few manufactures had problems with peeling in the early days , and have gone back to cast liners
The old ways are sometimes the best and easiest
