Post subject:  X1 Lightning recommended oils

I purchased my 2002 X1 Lightning back in May after not owning one for years. I cannot recall the engine and primary drive oils I used in the past. This is undoubtedly going over old ground, but what oil is generally accepted to use in an X1?

Thanks Neil

You'll get the most sensible answers from doing a search on here, I'm sure there are many lengthy threads.

Harley-Davidson Engine Oil and Harley-Davidson Formula Plus for the primary will be the standard recommendation. Alternative is Harley-Davidson Syn 3 for both holes which is my preference but most of those who know will say to go with the stock oil because it does the trick better than anything else and it's reassuringly cheap (by modern standards of oil price)

Thanks Steve for your reply. I possibly used Harley 0ils in my two X1s which I owned years ago. I've heard different opinions in the intervening years as to which oil to use and that's the reason for asking. If anyone is aware of the oil Maz used at the Emporium I'd be interested to know.

Maz will have gone with the recommendations above although he's not a fan of Syn 3 because he sees no point in paying the extra. I was just sucked in by H-D marketing and like to keep things simple by using the same oil for everything on all my bikes.
