Wow that's spooky. Mine started doing the exact same thing after riding for about an hour on Sunday. Was just rolling along a high street very low revs and it wouldn't pick up for a good quarter of a turn. I thought the fuel warning light had failed and I was about to run out, but a bit more throttle and it was fine. Also tick-over's fine when it's shut. Mmmmm?
Which solenoid is it?
Mine did that from almost new. I disconnected the 'noid before I knew what it was for but after asking around I worked out that it didn't do much. Took off the operating cable and it was like a different bike.
Take off the airbox and filter + base and it's the big shiney thing bolted to the top of the R/H frame rail. Just take off the cable that connects to the throttle quadrants (it'll unscrew from the 'noid rod if you grip it with pliers) but leave it electrically connected if you don't want it throwing fault codes. Order a resistor from BB and you can remove the whole thing. Don't drop it on your foot, it weighs a bloody ton
You can also lock the throttles together, you'll see what I mean when you look at it, with a tie wrap but imho you'll gain very little doing this.
