Thinking of fitting heated grips to my M2 and need some advice on best wiring option if anyone has done them before have a set of Oxford grips come with wires to battery but that seems like a recipe for a flat battery. Had them for a while but never got round to fitting them as the weather down here is normally pretty balmy  Thanks

You are right - a direct feed from the battery is a switch waiting to be forgotten in the "on" position, and a dead battery waiting for you the next morning. Use a relay with a tap off an ignition-switched circuit to trigger the power to come on from your (fused with an inline fuse) power lead from the battery. Not familiar with the grips you are using - do they have a high/low power setting switch, or is it just on/off? I Could post a wiring diagram either way. |

Nice one man , that would be good, was hoping someone might have already done it and could make some suggestions for the best location for wiring into . The grips i have are made by oxford for sports bikes have on off switch , fuse and heat adjustment. |

Sorry - can't help you with wiring for an M2, specifically. On an XB, I would tap into the parking light feed that is always hot when the bike is on, and use that to trigger the relay to allow current from your new battery line to feed the grips. Your new 12V feed from the battery should have an inline fuse. Typically, heated grips don't draw much - somewhere around 3A or 36W, so a 5A fuse should suffice. Here's the type of relay that would do the job - this one's a waterproof unit from Bosch. About 1" cube size. |
