weight feel comparison S1 & Uly

Post subject:  weight feel comparison S1 & Uly
Both the Uly & S1 are about 193 Kg dry weight. Of course the Uly is taller but fuk do they feel twice the weight. Is it just the height or do all XB's have higher CGs ?

Well my Uly will drop into a bend as fast as anything I have had, inc the Aprilia RSV-R, if not faster. I dont find the Uly top heavy at all. In fact it is the most neutral and balanced bike I have ever rode. It is not about weight it is about how it is used.

Hi FD - I wasn't really talking about handling. They both handle well. What I meant is that I am very surprised they are the same weight. The Uly feels much heavier.

And it follows that if the XB's are the same weight & have a similar CG, what was the point of scrapping the tube frame :idea: Does that make sense :?:

I think the 1125 is listed as about 30kg's lighter than the X1 but i did remark to Harry when we picked it up that wheeling it around it actually feels heavier .......maybe the drum skin belt tightness as a lot to do with that?

Personally i am very happy with the weight of my ully i can push it in and out of the garage with ease , that is compared to my CVO Ultra that weighs 420 kg which i push nowhere unless i have to.

Ah I see your point. Well I dont know the tubers so cant comment. Maybe its the build cost.

The very slim tank/seat area that allows even short arses to plant both feet flat with bent knees help enormously to make the S1 and razor back M2 feel much smaller/lighter than they really are. I can't even get my old arthritic legs to fit on a Uly.

its all history now....... but what was the fekin point of changing from tubers to XB's when there is no difference in weight & the CG is probably the same - ish.

.......... the beginning of the end for Buell came with Erik trying to be clever, rather than just producing the best tube framed twin he could - like ducati, KTM & BMW. Rant over :oooops:

When I tried to pick my Uly up after breaking my collar bone it was too heavy :D :D

Erm...........perhaps just further and continued pursuit of mass centralisation and lowering the centre of gravity with fuel in the frame.

BTW I agree the 1125 feels heavy, I have the 1125CR and a Triumph street triple both allegendly the same dry weight, the Triumph feels half the weight of the Buell to wheel about.

The first time I got on my 06 Uly, I had not paid for it yet :oooops:, I tipped it over to about 6 inches from the deck but managed to pull it back up. Stupid amount of wheel lock :headbang:. The bike is easy to pull about if you use the pillion grip or the triple-tail thingy and get the balance right. I find it the best bike I have had to pull about because of this.

But not with a broken collar bone. I would say the Uly would have a higher C of G though and a full tank would not help any.
