I have seen a lot of talk about the legal side of cans and plates. This is what you will get from a MOT station if your can and plate is not legal.

For me this was with a Remus can and a 25mm smaller plate.

What you do is take the OEM can and a legal plate with you to the test and they change them out if they have to ;) ;) :yup:. It is not a problem but be aware that if the Man makes you take it to an MOT station, after a pull, you may have a problem. I have been pulled for speeding with no Tax on the bike, in my wallet, small plate and the Remus can. But on the other hand I fessed up straight away and, which you should, it helps to show respect.

Lets be sensible out there. You poke the Dog and its going to bite you sooner or later . Just MO of course.

They do have to catch you first though....I had a very pleasant surprise on Tuesday afternoon ;)
Local knowledge with small plate and unmarked Police car can be a very good recipee to have ;)
Especially if you are only 10 miles away from home and the helicopter is obviously not in the area......Luck was an important factor.

You know the score Asda. I have a great deal of respect of what is right but maybe I am old school on this one.

In my experience if you don't take the piss with your number plate size then you will have very little problem ..............I've only once been told to change my plate by an over zealous cop...........a point i argued much to all my mates amusement considering how loud the X1 is lOl ....the reason i argued was the fact that the plate is legal with makers name bs number and everything.............. i think he realised he was wrong but didn't want to admit it ......I just told him i wanted to know why he said it was illegal so i could send it back for a refund lol.
At our local bike meet last night i came round the corner in my normal quiet mode on the X1 lOl to find 7 police bikes and 4 police 4x4's parked there  lOl .........the only comment i got later in the evening was one said to me when he spotted my tshirt .........was that you on the white Buell lOl

HI,
just had mine tested and looking over the pass certificate noticed last section which reads-
A test certificate is not evidence that the vehicle is in satisfactory condition. It does not mean that the vehicle fully meets all legal requirements or that it will continue to be roadworthy for the next year. It is the owner's responsibility to keep the vehicle maintained so that it would always meet the standards and be free from other defects.
So legally not really worth the paper and ink used to write it.....And becouse of this i have a wyleco RS end can with never any problems.

:yt:
exactly. an mot only proves your vehicle was fit to pass during that time, you could theorectically ride away from the garage, have some defect and then be unroadworthy, bit shit really.
what really gets me though is the fuckwits you see during the winter when you go to and from work, you see dickheads in new cars with faulty headlights, they probably don't even know until it goes for a service, if they have it done, or technically could drive for up to 3 years like it until they need an mot
dumbasses :headbang:

Exactly, as I frequently remind my customers... it is just a piece of paper (or rather a copy of an entry on VOSA's computer) that allows you to purchase a 'tax disc', nothing more.
However, it remains the driver's responsibility to ensure that their vehicle is MoTable 365 days of the year... note MoT standard is the absolute MINIMUM quality of roadworthiness... and it can be stopped and checked at any time by a rozzer or a VOSA official eg a roadside checkpoint.... would that it happened more often.
Where's the problem? Driving / riding is a privilege, not a right. I agree with Albert, and wish more cars were stopped for lighting infringements... it's such an obvious 'pull' and I'd bet that more defects could easily be found (eg tyres) on a poorly maintained car driven by a moron who hasn't checked his lights or tyres in months, if ever...
There was talk a while back of changing the MoT to a 24 month treat.... heaven help us....!

Here in Germany they have a two year tuf test in which it must be safe and up to it's task on the day of testing and in two years time. Which goes some way to explain the lack. Of bangers ongerman roads as opposed to Uk.

I had my MOT today by a very nice R1 riding Polish chap, who enjoyed chatting Buells). I have a 7 x 5 plate and open Remus pipes and it passed just fine. I took the original plate with me and offered to put it on but the tester was very reasonable and after seeing the original accepted that I would just take it off again anyway and so let it through, same with the pipe. ("Its a Harley engine, they are supposed to sound like that" :D )

As the certificate says on it, it means you passed its safety check on that day and does not guarantee the bike is road worthy afterwards

Got to ask. Why take your bike for an MoT with illegal plate and exhaust?

Yes this was the same with my bike. I had taken the std plate and DB killers so that if it was a problem they could, in 10 mins, be fitted. It makes everyone happy and legal. The can does not need a BS mark on it and it just needs to be no louder than a std can. I do not think it would pass with a "NOT FOR ROAD USE" or a "FOR RACE USE ONLY" stamp on it. I might be wrong though.

I posted the pic, of the fail sheet, to show that it is NOT a problem if you go with what you may need to pass the MOT as some have been unsure in the past.

It is right to say that the MOT is only valid at the time of the test. The Tester is only into covering his arse. If you get a pull, a mile down the road after the test, for something like a small plate he can say it was not on the bike at the time of the test IE you changed it. If on the other hand you had a bald tyre he would be fecked, lose his ticket and prob his job.

Hi just goes to show that we motorcycle enthusiasts all care about the look and sound of our bikes. And yes now and again some of us want to be on the right side of the law( 10 minutes every 12 months does me fine). And here in Germany you can only get a metal plate for your vehicle standard size which is where your mot and any month restriction are on.
