:o muffins back in the naughty corner  been out this afternoon and after just under 50 miles you've guessed it ........................cut out without warning again............gonna have a look at the coil next but seems very strange it goes from running perfect to nothing without any warning.............going a take a few more bits and bobs next ride but the most importent thing i can think of is a box of matches   maybe it's still feeling put out at first having to share with the CR and second having to share with the Harley now . lOl

Ignition switch? Theres a joint between the key switch and the fusebox, maybe theres a broken or chafed wire around there, so only ignition or the ECM is hit. Perhaps you could take a voltmeter with you and check power at the fuses when it fails next time. Might also be helpfull to find out if the ECM stays powered or not when the engine stalls.

I already suggested the ignition switch thing to Kev :?

Whilst you have the meter out, check the ECM feed to the CPS/TPS is 5V

Cheers Adam ;)
I've checked coil resistance and it matches my spare but have changed it anyway ...will dig out the spare ecm and set the tps and stick it in my pocket next time i go out so i can do a quick swap to see if it allows the bike to restart without waiting......also will take meter with me and have a poke around. If i lost the ignition switch would i not also loose the warning lights etc ?
Only dodgy looking connection i have found is slight corrosion on the grey wire at the fuel pump connector. don't think it's fuel related though as when i cycle the ignition the fuel pump runs everytime but bike still doesn't start .

Sounds as if it's not the ECM's power supply then, otherwise the fuel pump wouldn't run.

just 'cos it's new, dosn't mean it's without fault, anyway of positively checking function ?

Yep i know what you mean GM..........problem is checking it when it fails at the side of the road ...suppose could get the heat gun out and work my way around components warming them up .....may have to do that at work though as don't think i'll be popular if i do that at home lOl
