Post subject:  Wont start!!!!!!!

Hi
Bike has been running fine went out this morning no problems. Tried to start this evening no joy, just a solid clunk!
It's an XB9R, goes through its diagnostic check, engine management light goes out, push button nothing but CLICK. Not had a chance to check much but battery terminals are fine, battery seems strong as high beam is good n strong. After pushing starter the lights go very dim, as in just glowing and the relays start to click after a few moments. switch off and on again and all comes back on strong but process is repeated.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Mark

How old is your bike/battery?
It takes alot to crank over a Buell, so my guess would be new battery time.

Put a volt meter on the battery as you try and crank it, see what the volts drop to, if it drops below.......(cough) volts, it's goosed!!

Sorry can't remember what the voltage shouldn't drop below ;)

Oddly enough my XB9S did exactly the same thing the day before yours (25th) despite never (touch wood) having any electrical issues before.

After trying a few things I checked what should really be the first port of call - the battery connections. They were both nice and tight and clean. But, loosening them off, wiggling them around a bit, and tightening them up sorted the problem.

FWIW, the workshop manual diagnostic procedure indicates that you need to determine whether you're getting a relay click and nothing, or a solenoid click and nothing. Mine was a solenoid click (quite loud). Once the solenoid engaged all the electrics on the bike died - lights out, speedo trip reset, etc.
