I received a letter from Robinsons The Foundry this morning, my local Harley (and therefore Buell) dealer. It says:

"Contrary to recent speculation, Robinsons Foundry will not be closing its doors to customers in September 2010.

However, due to unexpected external business pressures, we have been given the opportunity to reorganise our sales strategy.

As from September 2010 the Harley Davidson side of the business will no longer be franchised here at The Foundry.

These arrangements do not affect the service dept, aftersales dept, Suzuki showroom and Suzuki mail order dept."

So, whipping away the spin, what do you all reckon's going on here then?

Sounds to me that they have had the Harley franchise taken off them..........so with that will be the ability to do warranty work...........shouldn't stop them being able to service them though.

Harley don't like competition and want exculsive sites allegedly. Maybe the Foundary had to choose between HD and Suzuki...

Who would you choose?

A HD insider whispered to me that HD have had the mardies on with UK dealers who've been selling bikes to European dealers..... hence the loss of dealerships.......

I heard Silverstone is going to reopen another name and going to sell Victory - Kwackers and still service the HD as an independent.

That's all well and good but there's not another Harley dealer in Kent, the hogs will have to travel miles for warranty work. Doesn't affect me of course, I'll still be visiting Steve at BB but it seems mad to close the only Harley dealership in Kent.

Honda are like that. To have a Honda franchise dealers must have a separate building
for Honda only!

Fowlers have a Honda building. It is a bit shite and sterile though...

yeah, Robinsons had a super duper typical Harley shop and next door, over a small wall but yet a whole biking world away is the Suzuki dealers so nothing really to do with the building.
still baffled...we all know Harley are in financial pooh but to close shops like this so there are no dealers in a whole county seems mad, i mean, who's going to buy something they can only get serviced a hundred miles away...oh yeah, most of us lOl
