I'm halfway through a 400 mile trip having today ridden up to get my bike seen by the oracle that is Maz. Long ride up but I spent the day at the emporium watching the master at work. The place is Buell nirvana and I very much enjoyed looking at the other bikes (motored and not!) plus all the other pieces that just celebrate a passion for Buell that is palpable. Anyway, meticulous attention to detail in checking over the bike highlighted areas I need to raise with my local dealer as warranty issues (so that's saving me money already) plus work that could be done to improve the bike as it was. Work done included the fitting of the FS belt tensioner (in poncy blue ), the breather mod, a K+N air filter and the gearbox grease nipple mod (hope that's right) plus the replacement of wheel bearings which, from demonstration had seen better days. The bike, of course, feels so much better. I'll be back for the 10k service without question. The price is also honest to the point that I had to double take. I'll not be doing any serious spannering on the bike ever again. Yes this is a fawning thread, but to those (like I wuz) who didn't know who to turn to/trust with your Buell, then I whole heartedly recommend Maz. Proper gent, plus he let me smoke his baccy. Btw: On seeing a rather nice X1, I now want a new bike. |

It's just lovely though, GM Never knowingly seen an X1 up close and have now been put off getting an S1 (for the mileage that I do) |

Quote: I'll not be doing any serious spannering on the bike ever again. Put it this way Docca. You sound like you are good at your job and Maz is good at His. Sometimes that is just the best way to do it. I know I "rag" Maz a bit but would hope he knows its just a bit of fun on my part. I used to run my own firm and its not easy to say the least. The Indy guys like Maz are rare these days and thats a shame because we need them. IMO the guy has either very large balls or is just mad |

I don't take my bike to people who generally insult or criticise the customer! Glad you had a good experience though! Edit: Nope I just can't be that cruel! So I will have to put a to make all things right! Now that feels much better! |

IMO Maz is simply a normal run of the mill manc, ie nothern bloke who don't suffer fools and if you anoy him, rightly or wrongly he will let you know in no uncertain terms, ego don't come into it. He's also a craftsman with a passion for his job, he is the only person i will let near my bike with any confidence, sometimes that involves feeling a bit belittled and embarrassed when you realise that compared to your own spannering knowledge (which you previously thought was half decent) the guy has probably forgot more about Buells than you're ever gonna learn. Personally I find his sometimes cutting and brisk manner refreshing, its all part of the banter, at least you know where you stand with him. JUST DEAL WITH IT. |

I wholeheartedly agree, my spannering knowledge is...zilch, but even I can tell what a craftsman the lovely Maz is. I have warned him, that he is not allowed to retire until I am dead, as I will need all of his skills to keep my baby (which I intend to ride until I am 100) on the road. People say he is grumpy too, but I thought he was a sweetie - even though my baby is an XB! I even saw him grinning as he rode it back from the MOT |

I'm entitled to my opinion, all this Maz is god is bollocks imo. Probably most suck up to him cause of what they can get out of him! He would get my respect if he showed some respect! His tooling has never been in question! On a more positive note; it's good to hear a bike mechanic who does a good job cause I've sure been shafted before by substandard work - kind of tired of it - which leeds to trust issues! Anyways all this chat about maz will no doubt give him a boost in income which must be welcome in this quiet time. |
