Dunno GH, I have heard all sorts on this.

Ever since I changed the oil in the falco I have had some cam noise from the front pot, anyway they use hydraulic tensioners and this week I got fed up with it so drained a liter of the semi out and tipped a liter of 20-50 mineral in-noise gone :yup:

Oh did I ever mention your avata? Nice :D

N.

Wouldn't stop me (just put a litre of synthetic in my car - no idea what was already in there!), but then again I am no oil expert...

Saying that, if it were an engine I loved, I would know what oil was in there and I would not mix it unless I was in a pickle, and in which case I would change the oil quite quickly afterwards...

In the '70's we used to mix Bel Ray synthetic with Castrol R for premix 2 stroke racers, the synthetic looked after the pistons and bores and the R looked after the mains. We had no problems.

:yt:

Your not supposed to mix synthetic and mineral oil but not so sure about semi synthetic but I wouldn't do it unless it was just an old runabout.

I used Asda value oil in my old Volvo. Wasn't gonna put £30 of oil in a £250 car.
I use the correct stuff in the Buell cos I actually give a shit.

Very little oil is true synthetic, most is modified dino oil. The bloke at Morris oils says it's ok to mix synth and dino but you won't get the benefits of the synth polymer chains etc.

Can I just scoop some up from the Bay of Mexico? There might be a bit of water mixed in but that doesn't matter does it?
