OK, Winter is on it's way and there's work to be done.
Following Robin's excellent Cyclone thread, I thought that I'd take a peek into the depths of my garage and see what sort of state my old Triumph Speed Twin is in.
I've owned this bike for more than 25 years. Back then, it was featured in Dave Richmond's "Custom Cache" column in the old Motorcycle Weekly (yes there was an alternative to MCN) albeit in a different guise to how it is now.
I used the bike for daily commuting and Rallies etc. when I lived in Surrey as well as two trips to the Isle of Man. I've ridden about 19,000 miles on this bike in total.
I've rebuilt it twice, the last time being in the recession of the early 90's. This meant a Hammerite paint job and no money for re-chroming.
Then the kids came along and although I've always had at least two bikes on the road, the little Triumph has been languishing under a pile of toys and DIY debris for 15 years.........
.Today was different though. When I got up this morning, all I was gonna do was clean the S1 and check it over for a blast up to the Ace Cafe tomorrow.
Then my brother phoned and said my 80 year old Mum had been taken to hospital. She's OK (for a one legged Diabetic), but it got me thinking that I'd stay local this weekend, just in case she needed anything.
Anyway, I decided to gut out the garage and dump all the accumulated shit, in preparation for the Triumph rebuild.
I even laid down a bit of carpet that I got from work to make it cosier on winter nights.
It took all day (with a visit to mum thrown in
)but I'm now ready to start.Bobbers (as they are now known) should not be confused with the high end billet cruisers that most of us loathe. The catchphrase "less is more" should certainly apply.
Here's mine, looking a bit sad, but most of the hard work was done last time, so this time around, there'll be much less machining time needed.

I've got a few ideas this time around, such as ditching the charging system altogether and just using bicycle style LED lights and running an original girder front end with a spool wheel and no front brake. That will depend on how much cash they cost. I'll be at Netley Marsh having a good poke around.
The only thing I know for certain, is that most of it will be home made and it will be black and white.

listening to me tunes, rolling fat ones, supping the odd ale 
and .......... Stripping the front end re oil /service forks, new head set bearings, bleeding the brakes, stripping and repraying front and rear light mounts, general service and giving everything a good clean and polish, Am also thinking about getting Albert to knock me up some race headers (Anyone got a template).
