The problem being its all over the fookin road.
I went for a ride on my XB12s today and noticed it wasnt running very well. A few miles down the road I pulled up to see what was wrong and found the contents of my engine pissing out all over the road. It was coming out from under the airbox cover, so I removed it and found oil had filled the airbox cover base and was then gushing down through the bike innards onto the road. It seems my bike had relieved itself of most of its oil through the two breather pipes in the airbox!
I have just changed the oil and put in the correct amount as described in the manual. Have I overfilled it? It didnt look good at the side of the road but a fellow biker stopped and suggested thats what I had done(overfilled).
Could any damage have been sustained by this happening? The chap that stopped said I could have a blockage or kinked oil pipe.
I am going to check for trapped pipes and fill up with oil again.
Is this the right way to go?

I'd suggest if it didn't have any signs of leaks previously and you had just changed the oil that you may have overfilled it.....................are you sure you drained and refilled the same oil? ie the drain plug under the engine is the transmission oil only and nothing to do with the engine oil ...(on the xb you drain the engine oil from the swingarm).......if you did drain from the plug under the transmission but then added oil in the swingarm not only will you have overfilled the engine but will have run with no oil in the transmission........You wouldn't be the first to have done this :o

I have changed the oil and transmission oil before this time and found no problem.
Do you think it could be something else?

Did you run the engine prior to draining the oil?

Did you check the level on the dipstick with the bike on the side stand?

Quick question from a technical doughbrain. What's the best oil to use in my XB12 SX? And, how long does oil last in a container once opened? Fanks.

Cheep as chips Harleys own brand, and its been in the ground for millions of years, I dont reckon leaving the top off will hurt!
