so how much should i pay for a engine that has broken cams and bent push rods? 98 s3t? would there be any other damage to look for? :yup:

I'd look at what caused the valve train damage ;) If the gear cluster is out, check the dogs on the pinions.
A couple of years ago, I bought a low miles X1 motor for a grand, off a Copper in Luton.

Add possible metal swarf in the oil, damaged oil pump, bent valves, damaged piston and head. :cry:

If the cams are "broke" What is the state of the R.H. case?

bloke reckons cams seized! to me no oil spells major? these engines are hard to find so if he says its bent the push rods and he has new cams etc no other damage it maybe worth taking the risk? :?:

Cam can't have seized without destroying the bushes in the cases ;) and if it span them may have damaged the case itself. Also like you say to have seized points to a major lubrication problem so may have damaged even more of the internals .....sounds like it's worth offering him five bob though ;)

kev can the bushes be machined to fit new ones? think they have somehow been pressed into the case when seized. im in two minds about purchase but what swings it is its complete(but damaged)

Maz or tubs would be the ones to advise on that .........but i guess that the bushes may need line boring after fitting...........I could be wrong so check with somebody that is familiar with rebuilding these or harley engines ;)

They do. That's why the timing chest covers that are always on Ebay are virtually worthless without the rest of the matching motor.

Listen to Maz, if there was insufficient oil to lubricate the cams, what about the crank (which you really want)...

Why not buy a Buell chopper, use the engine out of that, then sell the rolling chassis on?
