Not strictly Buell chat - apologies....delete/move as appropriate mods On the back of my thread about not being able to have a new Buell on HP every three years, I started thinking about other options so popped into my local Ducati dealer Cut a long story short - I have been offered a good trade in against an unregistered M1100s, the only other bike I have ever considered, has anyone got any experience of them? Bitter dissapointment against the Buell for the fun factor? Out of the frying pan into the fire for reliability/longevity? I know the 1100s is soon to superceded by the evo but it has been reduced significanly and has the nice Ohlins kit which the evo loses, also doesn't have the 'unnecessary' (IMO) ABS and DTC electronictrickery. I guess the best test is to ride one, but can't find one locally Mant thanks, Steve |

Steve, Check out the monster club forum http://www.ukmonster.co.uk Although website unfortunately seems to be down at present for some reason? Several members of the UK monster club, including a few close friends have owned M1100's for a while now. I'm sure you'll get the advice you need if requested, and it's worth registering on forum if contemplating monster ownership. I've owned monsters myself since 1999, a M600 and two 900ie's including trike. However I'm not familiar with later models - hence my suggestion to visit the forum. Best of luck on your search for a Buell replacement, ironically I've just switched the other way round |

I shall sign up and see if there are any Buell defectors on there, satisfied or otherwise I have found an M796 locally to demo, shall hopefully get out on that this afternoon and go from there.... On paper the M1100 seems pretty close to the Buell, fairly sure it's not going to have the character though, not with standard cans anyway...we shall see |

I had one for a couple of days when my multistrada went in for a fix, the tag on the key called it a hyper retard, its a real licence loser, what a laugh though, I just couldn't smile wide enough. Andy |

Steve, I've got a monster 900i, I love it. It handles well and has great brakes and super finish. i dont mind the clutch rattle but when it wears out the whole clutch needs replacing, basket an all. The belts are simple enough to change. The monster and X1 are very alike and both great fun to ride. |

Mrs Adam got rid of her XBSs and bought a Monster - 'tis a lovely bike. She got Termis for Xmas Keep it clean, the paint on the motor can bubble and lift if you're not careful - but being a XB owner, you already know all about that |

The M1100's got a stonking engine, but I doubt it'll ever have the huge low down grunt of a Buell. Should be more nimble in twisties though, as Ducati kept the weight as low as possible. Good cans liberate a few more bhp, save more dead weight, and give the fantastic Ducati burble on overun. If you do more town work the 696 or 796 are a better bet, as they are happier plodding at low speeds. The 1100DS engine is very leggy (like the Buell) and harder to use in traffic. |

I've got the 1100s hyper and it's a fantastic bike, I ride every day (assuming there's no snow or ice) I've done about 12k in the last 12 months. It's been out in all weathers and is lasting well. In fairness it doesn't handle as well as the xb but it's damm close, everything else is so much better! If you could transplant the running gear into an xb frame it would be the ideal bike (from a riders point of view). The only pants thing about the hyper is the crap 12 litre tank which only gives approx 100 miles. I changed mine for a 22 litre which has sorted the problem with no external visual changes. It's a hoofin bike |

Couldn't get out on the M796 demo as the roads were too wet, or so the salesman told me after waiting 45mins to even be acknowledged and find out if they actually had one (it's listed on their website under demo's) which involved looking at the model numbers on the tanks on a row of 696's, even I could spot the difference a mile off, single swingarm anyone - where do they get these blokes from I could of had £18k in my pocket to spunk on an 1198sp for all they knew......needless to say i'd have gone elsewhere. Thanks for the input folks Still undecided but hope to get out on an 1100 this week.....weather permitting |

Yep, sorry I was hoping that someone, from experience, was going to tell me that I would be mental to trade the Buell for the Ducati, it hasn't happened yet though........I would have asked on the Kawasaki forum - but I don't have a Kawasaki |
