a mate and i have rescued an old triton with a t110 motor. when it runs, a fuel/oil mixture spits out of the crankcase valve. we thought it was the old fibre glass tank that was leaking into the oil tank but since found thats not the case. any ideas what the cause of the fuel leaking into the crankcase oil? bike runs fine and has plenty of compression. am i doing any danger to the engine by running it? is it normal? any help gladly appreciated. cheers, muzz

For a start, it's a dry sump motor, so there shouldn't be any crankcase oil. ( well, hardly any anyway)
The only way it can be getting fuel into the oil tank is because it is suffering petrol wash past the inlet valves, which is getting past the rings, into the sump and being scavenged back to the oil tank.

I know you reckon the compression's ok, but those motors seem to make enough even with a holed piston.

By the way, when you say 'crankcase valve', what exactly do you mean? Is it the breather pipe that comes out of the top/back of the primary chaincase?
What frame has it got?

Post a photie of your bike since there's several (some better than other ) ways of getting a pre unit into a Norton frame. Hopefully you've got the original 'Slickshift' box rather than the more usual Norton/AMC box, I think they're a lovely box.
When you get the 8 stud head off, I'll put money on it being cracked around the valve seats

Both 8 stud and 9 stud heads are prone to cracking between the valve seat and the spark plug hole. Start with the float bowls to see if they are gummed up, especially if it hasn't been used for some time.

thanks guys!! great info. yeah its been stood for 22 years but has run fine since end of last year. then this year it was dragged out and noticed the problem. i wanted to run it down to brighton next weekend but guess it will damage it as the oil gets thinner. will strip the head off and check over. cheers for the help as ive never encountered this before
