Changing the intake seals on my 2009 Uly - it failed the brake cleaner spray test (it was so bad it stalled the engine).

On removal, the seals looked fine, but the seal retaining brackets have slight bends in them (overtightened bolts?). On a flat surface (piece of glass), holding one end down shows c.1mm gap at the other end. The hole is still round (to 2 thou inch).

Mine is a black/later engine, so has the elongated collar/bracket (27327-07); there is a new part number 27327-07A.

I have straightened the existing brackets and may well re-fit them. Seems to be an easier job than the earlier engine with 1 Allen head and 1 bolt, as mine is bolts both sides and more access.

QUESTIONS
1. Am I wasting my time re-using the bracket (am fitting new seals)?

2. Is the new part better?

Thanks all,

A

Update - fitted new seals and old brackets (straightened) - no leaks and the bike runs much better.

The righthand side bolts are easy accessible with a 1/4" small ratchet, for the lefthand bolts I used a ratchet spanner with a tilting head (I used a 13mm which worked fine on the 1/2" hex head).

The bracket bolts fully flush to the head at both ends; I did 1/4 turn at a time on each side to work the seal down/into place without a problem. You can torque the RH bolts properly but the LH are a guess.

Fit the fuel line before bolting the throttle body in place as the PCV gets in the way when installed.

Take photos before you start to show the runs for the cabling, clips etc.

HTH someone.
