Thanks for the input fellas, I rang Bowker HD, the Guy b told me that they only do one year warranty on counter sales. ( I've had it two years, almost to the day ) I've had a close look and as a few of you say there is some damage to a few teeth near the break, the belt was run over a few times though while it was in the rd.

Where is the best place to get a new belt please?
Des.

was it still on the bike when it got run over, cause that could cause alignment problems :rotfl:

Check pulley teeth too. The more miles I did and the more worn the teeth became, the more frequent my incidents with snapped belts. Started to become an irritating and embarrasing annual occurrence.
You need a good all round look at the pulleys. When I bought new pulleys and compared, the teeth on the old were about two thirds worn in comparison to the new and had very sharp top edges, especially on the gear box end.

Update on the belt. I rang Bowker, not complaining this time but making an enquiry about a new belt. Of course they could get me one. I asked about a warranty. Two years !
Oh I said " Funnily enough I bought one off you Two years ago ."
So now I have to produce evidence of 1 Time of purchase, 2 miles when fitted 3 name and address, Chassis # Reg. 3 Time and miles when belt failed.

So there is a wray of hope. Funny though how when you ring em to complain, there was one year warranty, but when you ring as a customer to buy, then there is two years !

I'll keep you informed, cheers .

And if the phone call wasn't recorded...it will probably revert to one year

I reckon Bowker are being very generous with this, after all, they only supplied the belt and have no way of knowing how it was fitted or used/abused since.....most dealers wont warranty belts, especially if they didn't fit them.......good luck :?

My belt shows a section of wear on the side like that photo, I was wondering if they were made like that? Would the wear would extend around the whole belt if it was rubbing on something?

My first belt snapped at 10000 miles, on my first ride after getting the Uly home. Clunking into first gear on a cold January morning. I'm paranoid about another snapping in the cold weather, have recently adjusted my clutch again but gearbox still very clunky compared to my S1. (why are XB belts so tight?) Was thinking of starting it in gear to avoid the clunk but don't want to cause more expensive damage to the starter, so now have worked out how to turn bike and roll down the hill I live on before sticking it into gear. Fingers crossed.

Maybe time for a free spirits belt tensioner
Or slot the lower hole for 1or2 millimeters from the stock tensioner.

Thanks, I did fit a free spirit tensioner very soon after I bought the bike, belt still very tight, can you get lighter springs for them? (currently has a yellow spring) Thinking of opening up the fixing hole a bit too. Would it do XB's any harm to have a looser belt?

Well My ray of hope was dashed. Warranty claims must be in within two years of the purchase. The receipt is dated 7.1.16. Story of my life. :| Anyway onward and upward. So i have to buy a new belt. I'm going to look into one of these Free Spirit tensioners too, but I have a question.
Does one tensioner fit all XB models mine being the Ullyes , or are they model specific ? Of course I don't want to order one off the internet and find I've got the wrong one.

Cheers Des.
