So the noise is certainly still there but much fainter that before I took it in to Warrs

I started it from cold, noise faintly there, put it in gear with clutch in, noise still there - no change.

I don't think I'll go back to Warrs as they're just too expensive - £89/hr before VAT - that's £106.80/hr labour!!!

Would love to be able to take it up to see you Maz, but I'm all the way down near Heathrow :(

I would have taken it to Tubbs (only 1.5 hours away), but he's moved on hasn't he?

On the plus-side, the noise was WAY quieter this morning and completely gone when I listened before killing the engine when I arrived at work.

Maybe it now sounds as it should and I'm chasing shadows :?

£235 to investigate the noise, new nut, gaskets, oil and to replace a faulty rear brake switch that I asked them to look at while it was there

That's more than my last service!

Just too much.

Using rough costings:
Nut £10
Oil£10
Primary gasket £20
Brake switch £20
1 hr labour (max  )
= £160 approx

Did you give them a massive tip :?: ;)

Every time I go there I feel ripped of and as though they're doing me a favour by even talking to me.

Well, it won't be going back there.

I've not yet been there, so can't recommend them personally, but a few people on here (and a few people i spoken to at local MOT stations and at work) have told me to go to Northants V-twin. Don't know exactly where you are, but its about 90 mins from Warrs. And if you needed somewhere to stay, we've got a spare room and are only 30 mins from there...

Not used them, but when I spoke to them last weekend I was told that their labour rates were £50 an hour -

and not a million miles away from you ...

Hmmm...

When I started it up to ride home, the rattle is still there

By the time I got home, it had gone.

Hmmm........if the basket bearing is OK, that really only leaves the crank roller bearing.......if it is that, then your bike is a write off :)

.......But,
"Hmm... ok, so primary cover off, lock the sprockets (somehow) and tighten the nut to new torque settings, with Locktite... in a nutshell...

That might be within my personal 'do-able' range

I assume I'l need a new gasket when I remove the primary cover."
