He's not if he wants a Buell Bomber, not a tuber, not everyone likes them ;)

How about doing a couple more videos, 1 from a cold start, and 1 when it's warmed up, let Maz etc have a listen. If it does turn out to be something wrong in the engine, I know it wouldn't save a huge amount, but maybe if you could just take the engine to Maz for the work then refit the engine yourself, you might save a bit.

If you decide to sell it, let me know, I know someone who would love it as a winter project to keep him out the way of the baby... :D ;)

I'll try and get another cold/warm video done.

It definitely sounds louder/noticable when cold and completely gone when hot

I'd say that my to my ear (and limited knowledge) it certainly sounds like something tapping/rattling against the primary cover and sounds partly like it's from around the front half (front sprocket area), partly from around the back (clutch area) half.

I'll post a vid later today.

Other than this issue, the bike runs/rides absolutely fine

Thanks for the offer Bikerdude, but I love it - I think I'd rather shell out to fix it than sell it.

Ignore thtat knock. Both my XB sound like a vessel's diesel engine when cold.
Who cares?

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that way - I tried to take a video of it this morning but the rattle was so faint that you couldn't hear it on the video

Then when I got to work it was completely gone

The upshot is it's gone once the bike is warmed up

I'm starting to think/hope that it's..

a) nothing
b) something but nothing bad

I'll keep monitoring it for now, but it definitely going up north for it's next service ( :maz: )

:yup:

Primary chain slack which reduces when warm...

I wouldn't, the engine is designed to be warm. If there is no noise when warm, it suggests correct operation...

It wont do any harm to check it, but be aware that sprockets are never perfectly round and to find the tightest spot you should pull the plugs, put the bike in 5th and turn the engine a couple of times to find the tight spot and adjust on that.

SB, just buy a 1125 - the amount of noise that engine makes will cure any paranoia you have about your XB ... lOl :o  :?

If its hard to pin point where you think the noise is coming from.. get your self a good long screw driver, put the end to various places you belive the noise to be and put your ear against the handle, it will help pin point it :yup:

So I'd be right in saying that if I slightly over-tighten the chain when the bike's cold and there's no noise, I've found the culprit then.
