Changed grips on the X1 and now my throttle sticks and won't return???? Bit hairy to ride to be honest as you have to physically close the throttle, it doesn't return. Anyone know what this could be? |

Trapped throttle cable (inside the housing)? Grip rubbing on the end of the bar? |

You've pushed the grip on too far. |

As Pash said, sounds like the grip is fouling the bars or switchgear or something |

Wot everyone else says about the grip. If it's not that, take the throttle housing apart and check the plastic guide in there (as Pash mentioned), the cable sometimes cuts into it. |

It might be good to give the system a thorough going-over: do your rpm's change at all when you turn the bars (binding of the cable somewhere)? Are the cables well-lubed? Are cables adjusted per service manual? Cables adjusted too tight can cause binding. But since you only experienced this after changing grips, it is probably related to fit of the grip against the switch control and/or the bar end. Any room to nudge the kill switch in? |

None of the above. ![]() |

Is it possessed by the devil? What is needed is a review of what has been done to the bike since it worked properly. As I understand it (on throttle side only): 1. Split the switchgear 2. Disconnected the cables from the throttle body 3. Removed twistgrip 4. Replaced twistgrip (new) 5. Reconnected throttle cables 6. Replaced switchgear So, what could go wrong? q. When the switchgear was split and replaced, did the cable routing change? q. When the new twistgrip was replaced, did it rotate freely? q. Before tightening the switchgear back together, did the twistgrip stick? q. When the switchgear was screwed together, did the twistgrip stick? Based on the answers the the above, we can drill down further... |

Had the same problem when changing grips on the V Rod - as mentioned before, try giving the cables more free-play - that cured my problem, they were binding in the sheaths because they were too tight. |

Last time something like that happened to me it was that the closing inner cable had come off it's guide at the "carb" end and jammed in a gap next to the guide itself - dunno if thats possible on an X1 ![]() |
