Had an unusual experience with my 2001 X1 last week: I started it up and let it warm up for a minute or so. Put it into 1st gear, let out the clutch and nothing happened. Tried again, tried 2nd, 3rd – nothing. I hadn’t used the bike for a month or so (dodgy knee) so I thought that perhaps the clutch was ‘sticking’ and not releasing the plates (or whatever it does) so with the engine still ticking over I leant over the left hand side and wiggled the cable, and the gear-lever – all seemed fine. Tried again, it sounded like it was going into gear but still no forward movement. Then I happen to glance down the right-hand side and there on the ground is the drive belt ! Snapped. Strange, because I was on gravel so not letting the clutch out with anything but due ‘care & attention’.
The belt has ‘Megadyne Isoran 1778 RPP14’ on it. What’s the best replacement ? From ? They’re some length when snapped – 6ft odd ! How easy is it to fit a replacement belt ? Ta.

It's usually a bit of a clue when you see the speedo whizzing round like a rev counter... :sad1:

Got about 25 miles out of it personally......hopefully the previous owner had a few out of it too. Good point about the tacho.....but in situations like that 'logic' isn't always to the fore -- more like WTF is going on ?

Er right, I'll give you a bell Maz. Ta.

While I'm on here -- what a bike ! Have been laid up with dodgy knee disinclined to bend enough to get foot onto footpegs, but have managed to get foot onto peg a couple of times and the ride has been balm for the soul (if not for the knee). Outrageous -- just what a bike should be (thanks Maz). Wouldn't mind a comfy seat though.

Not standard seat, my ar*e was killing me after a 170km round island ride today! Maybe a Corbin or Buell special....

From distant memory, it's more a case of crushed n*ts than sore ar*e........perhaps I should build up my forearms more -- now, where's my 70's 'Bullworker' ? Don't suppose the steroid injection in my knee today will be 'enhancing' the upper body much. Or it could be that, being more used to touring bikes, I'm just not getting 'down and back' enough....anyway, looking forward to getting back on it -- which reminds me must ring Maz and get belt to drive it.

I've got a Corbin on my X1. It's only there because it looks good and is well made. It's no more comfy than a standard one and it stops you shifting your arse about for bends etc.
