Jack up the front end and turn the handlebars

nice and smooth no "notchy" feel = OK
if not nice and smooth = bearings bolloxed

Mine lasted for 19K miles and were toast

Kevmean has some bearings very cheap and very good quality not sure if he has what you want but worth a try.

Kevmean does not have XB head bearings, they're H-D only :x
If your bike has done 10K, then the bearings are toast.......contrary to what Markp sez, you will not be able to tell by his 'method'.......only way to check them is strip the front end to the point where only the yokes are still in the frame.......at which point you may as well replace them anyway.
.......and whilst you're at it, service the forks to, will be like riding a new bike when you're done (assuming you do it all correctly)
