After 6 weeks at Riders under repair in the spring, one of the things they fixed - a faulty alternator to charge the battery - has failed again. The battery is flatter than a witches tit and just as the sun comes out again, the bike is unavailable.

What's up with these alternators? Having a scan around at websites it seems failing is fairly common.

You'd think these things would be fixable after all it's not rocket science, it's just engineering. :-(

Grrrrr!

It's down to us owners to find a solution ...

a competent electrical rewind shop
should be able to remedy it
it isn't rocket science , i used to do a few of them for Jap bikes, back in a previous life..

I am annoyed bordering on angry with this problem. A new part was ordered for the 1125r and fitted in the spring and yet it has returned despite this.

Just when I need it most I am left without my only transport.

Starting to eye on a Triumph or BMW now and wondering why I could ever have been diverted from my first desires.

I sympathise but if I only had one means of transport it wouldn't be a Buell. (Mind, remembering back to my youth, it used to be a Norton Commando :o )

I wouldn't rely on 1 bike as my only means of transport, no matter what the make is !

That's my excuse for why my garage is full ! 8-)

Well it seems I need another new stator and a few other bits and pieces. May take longer than 2 weeks to obtain the bits and fit.

Not good timing this, not good at all. :-(

These bikes are a weekend toy in my opinion.
Though at the moment me 1125 is my only transport and since it was last fixed proper i have had no problems what so ever with the help of the north & south coming together , a few issues raised at the service but my point is
with proper maintainence they can be riden very day no worries.
but you have to get it get your maintainence done by peeps who know what there doin

I can't really afford such an expensive toy. I just want it to work. Buell has a lot to answer for with his engineering. Not impressed so far. My last bike worked day in day out, summer, winter, ice, sun, whatever. This one is as temperamental as my ex-wife. :-(

To be fair, the 1125 has only left me at the road side once, and that was when the belt snapped. It may not be my only form of transport, but its the mode that does the most miles, nearly 19k miles since October 09.

My Daytona 955i, whilst a cracking bike, wasn't without its niggles. 3 failed speedo drives, failed fuel sensor, a front brake that had to be pumped up before every ride(they all do that sir), a ceized chain adjuster, knackered bobbins in the front discs, and a burst oil pipe juct coming out of Barn at Cadwell. All in less than 4 years of ownership.

If you want reliable transport, have more than one vehicle at your disposal.
