Post subject: | MY 04 XB12S Lightning Battery Question |
Hey, have tried a quick search on here for my ? but to no avail. The battery on my xb12s seems goosed. Went to try and start and just a horrible ticking/grinding sound. After research I am convinced the battery is gone. Looking for a replacement I found it to be a YTX14 BS. The ones I have seen are the type that you fill with acid then seal yourself. I am just a bit wary of these as the battery obviously sits on its side with increased risk of leaking, no matter what the battery info says. I have not seen any sealed maintainence free ones for sale other than the Odyssey ones which are getting up in prce !! Any suggestions... Thanks. |

You need a gel type battery ....either original which are very good ....or odyssey...don't have an acid filled one laid on its side |

lead acid is just a waste of money HD used to give a long warranty on there Batteries , but now only 6 months i use an Odyssey seems a good bit of kit if you keep it on a optimate or similar type of charger , when not in use they last longer |

I have seen lots of XBs using those type of batteries, many forum members use them on their side. As for how long they last... My black S1 has a Walmart battery, I have owned it three years, before that the previous owner had the bike three years and the battery was in when he got it... HD batteries may last longer, but they cost a lot more than a Varta off EBay and ask yourself if you are likely to keep the bike longer than the battery lasts... |

I have had a yuasa YTX14BS on my xb9s for over 12months now and had no issues jus hook it up to a cheap optimate after each ride!!! Sometimes it still shows a full charge after a ride other times it shows medium charge required. Had no leakage either. |

No liquids so spills are of zero concern. The do cost more - But as there are a whole mass that look like torch batteries you can (I have) build your own. I will not be buying another lead based battery for the bikes. |
