Post subject:  XB12s cut out under full throttle?????

Hi all
I’m having problems with my xb12s ..04…
I was overtaking a car giving it full throttle when the bike died on me.
Got it back home, it turns over fine but does not start up, not even a pop or any attempt to start.
Checked the fault code and it blinked out the air box temperature censor ….replaced that, still will not start, checked a spark to the plugs and OK.
Unclipped fuel line and turned over and fuel pump shot gas out the pipe ok.
Seems to smell of fuel when turning over ,so I would say fuel getting to the cylinder head. I have checked the fuses and swapped around the relays.
info.....race pipe ,airfilter and electrics fitted
I,m starting to scratch my head can any one give me a few pointers please.

Have you got sparks at the plugs?

I think he said he checked for that - "checked a spark to the plugs and OK"

So it's got a spark, got fuel... beats me... not getting air somehow?? :?

Oh yeah, missed that...

Are the plug tips wet?

Have you read the fault codes correctly? IAT seems to be something unconnected. I wouldn't think an IAT failure would stop the bike from running.

Thanx for your quick reply
is there a way to clear the fault code , so I can check to see if its still the sensor …not checked plug to se if they are wet yet .

How can you tell it is sparking?

iv taken the spark plugs out and earthed them to the head....hard to tell if they are wet as it take so bloody long to get them out......wife put a stop to fixing the buell, as the washing machines bearing are gone.
I watched one utube video on how to fix it and i ended with a washing machine spread all over the garden...i think it may be easier to strip the buell

Correct lOl Tuber size wheel bearings (except the wide rear one) are commonly used in washing machines :yup:

ok guys here we go
....Finally found the problem with the Buell..IV got 3 bent push rods 3 bent valves.. didn’t expect that. It turned over ok and dint lock up when it went. some teeth had sheered off the drive to the oil pump and seem to have jammed in and locked up the push rods . So the problem is why the teeth sheered off?? i must find out what could of caused this problem before i try and rebuild it up...and where can i get valves ,pushrods , gaskets ..and a new oil pump to be on the safe side.

The oil pump drive gear is prone to failure on pre-06 bikes. The teeth wear thin then fall off. You look to have been quite lucky, others have lunched the whole engine...

The later oil pump drive gear, made from Phosphur Bronze, is more durable.

This is a gentle reminder for me to replace the oil pump drive gear on my Firebolt...
