Yes I know I should have bought an Albert....but didn't.....

Having got that over with I am looking for some technical advice.

The HMF exhaust that I have on the 1125 is TOO LOUD for me and I want to quieten it down a tad. The company do a 'Quiet Core' which after much faff with shipping finally arrived today. I was warned that it wouldn't fit without modification and now I have it I see why.

The QC fits in the end of the silencer 'can' under the end cover. In addition there is a 'spout' for the normal can under the end cover. This comprises a Stainless plate with stainless tube exit bent to find the end cover. The tubing is spot welded in 6 places, through the plate protruding about 15mm through the plate. In order to fit the QC I need to be able to cut the pipe flush with the plate (i.e. not protruding through). I figure that this will only be sensible if the whole join is welded/strengthened......but as you can tell I am not a welding expert! The plate is thin and I imagine there may need to be some strengthening applied if the plate is to remain flat after welding.

Hopefully some pictures below:

Any thoughts? Anyone know of anybody in the Preston Lancs area that they would trust to strengthen/weld this sort of thing?

Ta

I had the very same problem. I took a dremmel tool with a cutoff wheel and cleared the tubing flush with the flange. When mounting the QC you will need to use high-temperature RTV sealant, as there just is enough clearance once the bits are together that the QC will rattle if you don't. I was advised, however, that the QC restricts the exhause flow enough to raise engine operating temperatures (in an already hot-running engine). This information advice is direct from EBR, who cautioned AGAINST using ANY restriction! I removed the QC and "learned" to live with the slight additional noise.
