My Uly has just paseed 10K miles, so bought a few service items from the local HD dealer. The plugs that were in it from new are 10R12X as the owners manual states, the ones the dealer sold me are 10R12A. I questioned this and showed them the original plugs, they insisted that the 10R12A is the replacment for the 12X. As far as I can find out the 12A plugs fit certain VRods but I do not want to put them in my bike if they are the wrong ones and cause some serious engine damage. So is the dealer right or wrong?. |

The plug spec changed in 2008 from 10R12A to 10R12X. IIRC, it was only the insulator shape that changed from the A to the X for increased resistance to plug wetting when people start their bike and don't let it warm up properly before shutting the engine down. It will fit all previous air cooled Buells as heat range and fitting is the same. ![]() I use 10R12A on mine (but I don't own an 08 or newer bike). |

My Uly is a 59 plate 09 model, I only use it for longer runs between 100 and 200 miles so should be ok with them as it always gets fully up to temperature, I was concerned that they might be the wrong heat rating and cause engine damage. Could always go back to the shop and see if they have any 12X plugs in. Thanks for the information. |

Chester HD. I will take them back and ask for them to swop them for 12X plugs. Out of interest would the bike have run ok without any damage to the engine if I had fitted them, as you know they are the same reach and thread as the correct plugs. |

Bike would be fine with 12A plugs......dealer is either shitting you or doesn't know any better when they said that the A was a replacement for the X. |

Thanks for the information, when I questioned what they had sold me I was not convinced by the answer they gave so thought would be guess to check on here. |

If that happens will have to try the Stratstone HD shop that is supposed to be opening in Stoke on Trent, would be closer for me. |
