Hi Bullers and Bulletts..
Any advice on if it's is wise to use a non 'Harley' battery for my 2005 XB12S - it's £120 vs £50?
Many thanks
Alex

Think there have been a load of posts on this recently. HD ones last a long time but not three times longer. My S1 has a Walmart battery that has lasted 5 years plus as it was fitted before the previous owner bought it. I try and remember to put it on the Optimate but it will go for months disconnected...

There are plenty of other options including smaller high output units, but if a Bosch or Varta does the job for £40, why spend any more?

With an Optimate everyday I should imagine most batteries would last a fair while

My batteries spend a few days in rotation on optimate type chargers then about a month or so without any attention. Varta/Yuasa served me well just bought a new one for the Triumph from Barden batteries for about £43 with free next day delivery (for the 1998 Triumph to replace original) Last battery for a Buell that I bought was £43 in 2007 from Barden.

I have a Motobatt on my XTZ and try to start a reluctant one at the moment (fuel issue I think) and the thing just keeps turning it over for ages and I have not managed to flatten it yet. I get bored before it gets flat.

Just fitted Motobatt to my 1125R and it spins over way better than genuine HD which lasted 18 months before it let me down at hogging the bridge. Smaller battery but a higher claimed amp/hour capacity 14 vs 12. Sensibly it has 4 terminals ( 2 pos and 2 neg)so one battery has many more fitment possibilities.
Yuasa battery on my old quad lasted 15 years of total abuse including driving high load electrical things like sprayer pumps and pellet broadcasters.
