Hi,
Enjoyed troublefree riding on my 1125CR till this week. Sidestand switch telling lies, ie sidestand down when its up, ok to ride when its down!! This fault activating engine management light and sidestand prompt on speedo head unit.
Can anyone shed light on this fault rather than throwing the bike and my money at Harly dealership?
Cheers

Hi Gunter,
I think your Dennis Ritchie quote just about sums me up, i ain't no computor programmer!! For someone of my limited programming skills ie, none, is this a trip to dealership for some wallet emptying main dealer action?
Or is there a way to bypass the switch?

Uninformed oppinion here, as I've never seen one. But if it's just two wires to a switch, then It's normally open, or normally closed.
So either join the wires together, or leave them disconnected?
It's just HSE nonsense to bypass Dawinism.

I don't think so. If that sidestand failure is indeed caused by a faulty ECM configuration, then someone must have changed it, as such things don't change on themselves. If not, it might as well a cabling or whatever error.

I had this EXACT same problem on my 1125R, see here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11657

I fixed it simply by adjusting the position of the sensor slightly and the problem disapeared altogether!

Hi Chris and everyone,

We were looking at the afformentioned CR today, and discovered that if you diconect the sensor at the connector just under the gearbox pully there, you can carry on your journey unhindered!, this will of course illuminate the system fault light, but at least you can get to where you were headed!. You will need the 30T Torx key from the kit to remove the pully cover to get access, then replace the cover.
Something to remember for the future i think. Haven't tried it on an XB yet, but expect the same.

I know we have tried this on a Dyna before now and it still didn't run when in gear, so I assumed (wrongly ) that it would be the same.
Sportsters will run when disconected also, I discovered today!.

Anyway, thought that snippet might be usefull to somebody at some time.

Regards, Jon

The kick method looks good. Do you just kick the switch or kick f**k out the bike?

Sidestand switch fault now sorted. Cried my eyes out to 'Pash' and he took a ride out to my sick bike and fixed it. What a top bloke.
