Okay, XB12s has been laid up for a while and I want to get it back out again, (waiting on the divorce to come through...)

Bike ran perfectly when I parked it in my brothers garage and I used to start it periodically and kept the battery charged etc. but soon noticed the fuel pump didn't sound like it was priming after a while unless I moved the bike around, then the whine of the pump stopped altogether. In time I stopped charging battery etc.

I figured the wiring to the pump has probably got chafed and/or the pump is crackered. Reading up here saw how to read codes off the check engine light so thought I'd do that to be sure before hauling all apart so, charged the battery, (knowing it's no good for running but ought to manage this task), and armed with my paper clip popped the seat off. When I key the ignition, without touching anything else, the check engine light just flashes - not 6 or 10 - just flashes constantly with a regular beat, so I need to know what the hell is going on here before I can try anything else.

Anyone got an idea please?

Ok, after my little panic moment there I searched the forum, (duh!), and seems I might have dodgy relays in the fuse box(?)

As they're probably cheap do you know where I could mail order some replacement from?

Maybe a silly suggestion ,but is the red switch in the run position?

The relays are a ford item ,so ford focus at the local pick&pull has plenty of those.

Kill switch is at run = continuously flashing CEL light

Kill switch off = no CEL light

Like I say it worked as it should up to last night - connected my charged, if weak, battery and it started doing it. Checked connections but to no avail.

Interesting to know they use ford relays - will have to look into that thanks! Am waiting on Riders to give me their price now, then I've just got to work out why, (I think), the pump isn't running...

Ok so quick update - I got three shiny new relays from Riders and finally summoned up the will to go to my brothers place to swap them over with promising results - the check light is now behaving as it ought!

Having achieved this minor milestone I pressed ahead with manually reading error codes, after a couple of false starts I got the answer; 12 rapid flashes, which I take to mean there aren't any error codes stored, so we're back to the start. I am going to have to pull the pump now to see if there's anything obvious going on there but, if it were chafed insulation on the wiring as seems to be a common issue, I would have expected it to throw out a pump code? The helpful chap at Riders suggested it might just be the pump has gummed up with old fuel residue, (it has been sitting a fair while... ), so maybe try immersing the pump in fresh fuel or with a solvent of some sort. Failing that it'll be new pump time - HD quoted £400 for a new unit but I note the pump itself is a Walbro 512 which can be obtained from various suppliers for £60 - £100. Anyone have any experience of aftermarket pumps or any other thoughts/recommendations?

I'd seen the FP pump advertised, (on eb*y), but was a little leery not knowing anything about them so it's good to hear that a 'real' person has had a positive experience with them - which is really what I wanted to hear, thanks!

Not yet - tbh the bike's on the back burner a bit at the moment as I'm right in the middle of a somewhat acrimonious divorce, (she's why I didn't get to ride it so much and ultimately ended up leaving it in my brothers garage).

Really miss it though, hence the renewed interest in getting it back to fighting trim, and would love to crack on but it's firstly not close at hand to work on, (being at my brothers), and I'm a little bit leery of spending the time and effort to get it done only to, possibly, have to sell it to give her half!

With a following wind I'll get to the other side ok and will get it sorted
