Local chap got in touch with me to see if I could help him with his sidestand on his 1125CR

Quote:
Sidestand switch operating arse about face. Puts engine management light on, prompts 'side stand' on speedo head unit when sidestand up and lets me ride off when sidestand down.

No worries I thought, just disconnect it (allows you to start and pull away) and no problems apart from the damn CEL. Went to visit said local chap, turned the error checking off and local chap disconnected the sidestand switch. Ignition turned on, no CEL, job done, or so I thought...

Text when I got home, he thought he would take it for a ride but when he put it in gear and let the clutch out, the damn thing cut out...

Went back tonight and turned off the sidestand interlock and made sure it worked before going home.

From this little experience I learned that when the error checking gets turned off, so too does the fault accommodation.

Funniest thing is that I wrote a story about it in the How To section, aimed at those that were not going to disconnect the switch...

So, if you are having trouble with your sidestand, set the bit to inactive in the configuration byte and turn off the error checking if you want to remove it. And if you want to remove it, one of these connectors plugged with three cavity seals (3-1690) will do the job...

"Progress" is not always progress.
We didn't have those problems in the 80's did we. ;)
If you rode off with the sidestand down, you knew about it in the first corner, and you only did it once. lOl
I blame it on the Geeks!

I should make sure your interlock switches are over-ridden on your X1...

In Layman's terms, is that disconnect it, or bridge it, depending if it's NO or NC when the stand is up?

Bridge both stand and clutch switches.

Actually - yes. USA spec' Guzzis had them too. But CEV electrics made disabling them a priority.

Not sure which is worse - cutouts or a bloody sprung side stand that flicks up as soon as no weight is on it. Another Guzzi invention I think.
