2002 XB9R.
Symptoms and what I did to get here.
New tyre fitted so thought it would be a good time to clean the calliper. Having removed both pads, cleaned the front calliper and the spring clip found after tourqing every thing the wheel would not turn freely and would make a rubbing noise. Have found even without the pads in and calliper tourqed its still not turning freely. If I don't tighten the calipper bolts its fine and spins nicely.
My thought is the spring not being in its rightfull place and rubbing on the inside of the disk but it only locks up after I tighten the calliper mounting bolts!
I have never come accros this before and can only cast my suspission on the calliper in some way rubbing or being miss alinged.
Rear wheel went no problem.
Is there a right way to fit that clip i.e. up and down? It is fitted with the four tangs out of the square calliper hole. Or does it need to be pushed through further into the body?
Thanks.

So, back to basics.

Is the wheel tight against the fork boss on the right hand side with the spindle done up?

Have you bounced the front end before clamping the spindle? And was the clamp fully loose before you tightened the spindle :?:

With the caliper off, does the wheel rotate?

If you put the caliper on with no pads, does the wheel rotate?

Are the pistons pushed in all the way?

With the pads now in place, without the spring, does the wheel rotate freely?

The critical bit is the alignment of disc / wheel / RH bearing / boss on the fork leg as this defines the position of the caliper on the disc.

Pash.
After looking the left slider was up close to the hub. But as you sudgested I took everything off including the mettal clip. Put all back but tightend the calipper to the fork leg before doing the axle (thought this would possition it in the correct place). With every thing else loose did the axle then both lower clamp bolts. Every thing nice and free to turn so far.
loosend the calliper bolts to insert pads and did these up again now all able to turn freely.
So thank you for your repply it did help.
So now its off for its road worthyness test this week ready for the T.T. after a new clutch lever.
:yup:

I kid you not, I once had a call from a bloke saying he had a front tyre fitted but now his brake didn't work. The numpty had put the wheel in with the disc on the wrong side. True story.
