Getting vibration/resonance from front end on XB12R on deceleration which is especially noticeable just prior to coming to a standstill (using no brakes).

It seems to have appeared since a recent change of engine/gearbox oils. However, thats probably just a coincidence (secretly hoping that I have not put too much oil in the engine at approx 2.5 ltrs).

Front isolator seems ok (still a good gap showing). Steering head bearings have no notchiness but I have not checked torque as yet.

Im thinking it could probably do with a bit of a tune-up and certainly a TPS set.

Your thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

Steve

If you take your hands off the bars, what happens?

Good question Pash. Im not sure to be honest as I can't remember ever taking my hands off the bars in the problem range. I have taken my hands off the bars at say 40mph whilst in the higher gears, which would have caused a natural slowing down, without issue. I think the vibration/resonance is just the same when using the brakes and changing down at the same time.

Are your forks OK :?: I had similar vibrations, my first thought was the gearbox, but it turned out to be the forks needing new oil and an overhaul.

I was thinking about treating the forks to new oil, so thats one thing to eliminate. Im not sure that they would need a complete overhaul as the bike has only covered 6k miles. Ive never had this problem on any other bike be it an in-line 4, triple or twin.

What mileage was your bike at and what needed replacing over and above the oil?

It's probably not that then, my bike had done 21,000miles, in 50 degree heat, and about 20 track days. Needed new oil, new seals, and new internal seals :P

Plenty of fun then! :) Thanks for your suggestion.

Gap measures 10mm. Piccy attached (fingers crossed!)

I think that looks ok, assuming the load on the side stand is low, i.e. when you hold the bike upright the gap doesn't change considerably...

The gap reduced to 8mm in the upright position without me sitting on the bike.

The rubber distorts/takes on an odd shape, which may be perfectly normal. Ive taken some more pics to try and show what I mean.

Seems to me as if the "mushroom" hits the isolator at the engine side, there's a small area visible as well at the isolator (pict. 1) and at the bolt (pict. 3). This might be quite normal, I haven't checked with one of my bikes. It might also simply come from the short distance of the photo taken, but it seems to me as if the engine is "hanging", as if the back isolator is not working as it should.

:yt: ......have a good look at the rear iso mounting block where it bolts to the engine.......they have been known to crack/shear off.

Thanks for your input guys.

Ive checked the isolator bracket to engine and all seems ok. Ive removed some touch up paint, applied by previous owner, to make sure that it was not concealing any cracks etc and still nothing. Also visually checked with engine running and there appears to be no undue movement of bracket/isolator.
