Don't leave the tap on! That could give you a whole new problem! I'm always bleating on about fuel quality, but my opinion is based on years of experience with problems in customers vehicles; only put in top notch stuff ie Shell V-Power or BP Optimate, never supermarket shite. ![]() You'll probably have to flush from the tank right the way through to the carb (again), being meticulous to blow everything through with compressed air until you're sure that nothing of the old fuel or its deposits remain and then fuel from scratch with the good stuff. Good luck! |

I have the same problem with my bonnie. The fuel in the float bowls evaporates leaving that horrible wax like deposit behind. This sticks the float needle shut and the only way to get the bike running is a carb strip and clean. However if I leave the fuel tap on the problem goes away. I appreciate that if my float needles were to fail then it would flood the carbs and my garage-possibly the motor too- but in the 3years since I first had the problem it's given me no further trouble. Hmmm Vpower??? good fuel but it is hard on some plastics. |

have same problem on one of my bikes, and yes i do use shell fuel in my bikes my question is is there anything we can add to the fuel to stop this happening ![]() ![]() in the old days the fuel would go off and have a varnish type of smell but the new stuff just dry's up and leaves crap in the float bowls and blocks jet's ![]() strange but true had recent need to use chainsaw that had been stood for years after checking presence of oil and fuel a couple a pull's and she fired up a little Smokey but ran fine . question did the two stoke oil in the fuel help to stop this carb blocking jet thing we are getting with the new fuel ( i know carbs on chainsaws and bikes totally different ) we could do a Willybuell and try Diesel ![]() although i think in small amounts may help ![]() what if anything do you multi bike owners use whilst not in use ![]() |

I think you might be right about the two stroke oil helping .................Harrys TZR50 which runs on neat petrol with autolube had a blocked carb ......................his Kawasaki motorcross KX85 that runs petroil mix has never suffered carb problems when stood. |

I find that using the bike almost daily helps. ![]() Leaving the fuel tap on has (potentially) much more serious consequences on a Buell than with other brands of bike. See the "How to" thread for crankcase oil seal replacement. |

Don't the Americans use a product called Seafoam to stop petrol going off. Can that be bought in the UK? |

http://www.seafoamsales.com/motor-treatment.html if true i like the " As a fuel system additive, Sea Foam will help clean carburetor jets and passageways, fuel injectors, helps clean deposits, adds lubricity to fuel, helps stabilize fuel for up to 2 years and helps control moisture." just 6 months will do fo me until the ![]() anybody used this and if so does it work |
