My money is on 1/2 UNF cos I don't reckon it changed from the XB and the XB shares the same drain plug for primary and engine oil tank...

Ok thanks, 1/2 UNF sounds likely - am thinking I'll get one of these kits:

Tips?

1. Get an insert no longer than the depth of the casting
2. Drill and tap the hole squarely
3. Clean the swarf up thoroughly
4. Tighten the plug with some mechanical sympathy (even though the helicoil will give you a stronger thread)

Has it done once on my VFR, but that was with a timesert and it was deeper than the casing so there was a smidgen of oil left in the sump when draining, but I was young then and the guy that did it for me told me it would be 'alright'...

After yoiu've drilled the hole, countersink it before you tap it.
