been reading about the oil pump drive gear failures and I have noticed that most of them seem to be failing on 03 to 05 XBs.
I have also read somewhere on here that after 05 they use an upgraded Buell gear so if this is true would I need to replace the one on my 56 reg Ulyssees.
It's on 32000 miles at present :askmaz:

Gear was updated in 06, lasts longer but still wears. See posts from Gunter.

Why not whip your oil pump off and check what state yours is in?

Can you really inspect it properly that way though?

does anyone know of a Ulysses gear failing?

The gear will fail when the teeth get thin enough to break off, regardless of which gear you have. I am pretty sure I have read about a later gear failing on BadWeb. Do a search.

Some gears wear quickly, others don't. Is it down to bad batches? How the engines are treated? I dunno...

You may find that your oil pump drive gear lasts longer than your big end or gearbox output shaft bearing. You may find it lasts longer than you want to keep the bike for.

Pop your oil pump and check the state of yours.

Pash, the parts come to £135 that's the pinion, 2 rocker cover gaskets, 2 exhaust gaskets and the crankcase gasket

No I didn't renew the seal! But there was plenty of lip on it.
Now I bet everyone is gonna give me loads of stick for that so come on bring it on. :oooops:
Then in a thousand miles or so I can tell you all to take it back and prove you all wrong  fingers tightly crossed!
