Looking to check the oil pump drive gear as i'm now paranoid about any possible wear issues and is something i've never done :headbang:

As i've an AST shock fitted there's about 15mm clearance between the shock spring platform and the base of the pump, so my questions.....

is there enough room to get the pump out with the shock in place?

chances of the original pump gasket being re-usable?

Timing cover is still it's original shape.

If I remember right you dont remove the oil pump. You remove the cam cover and the pump drive gear is accessed from there. :?
Check the how to section guide on cutting down cam cover to see how you safely remove and replace the cam cover. :yup:

Removing cam cover is a lot more involved than jacking the bike up , dropping the front of the shock and pulling the pump, if it's only an inspection.

And thats what i did this afternoon..............

Here's a short vid of the gear taken with an inspection camera i borrowed from work.....as it happens the quality of this camera is crap, may set up for a proper photo just for kicks but i'm sure all can see that the gear looks in pretty good shape for 27k miles :o :o :o

Which is more than can be said for the rear spark plug lead....removed to get the plugs out so as to spin the motor by the back wheel and the terminal in the plug end is broken :headbang:

Looks to be plenty of meat left on it, despite the mileage ...
