I have noticed a new noise coming from the xb12s after riding bake from Em's day,

all I can describe it as it sounds like:-

Any help on this would be appreciated bikes done 30000 miles

Du du du sounds normal to me. A clonkety clonk half engine speed is a sign of a big end going.

Cranks only available as one piece.

Never needed to use them but these guys appear to have new crank pins available:

But I believe the original crank pin was used.

Carillo rods appear to be available, and I would guess pre-00 rods will work and are available seperately.

.......and in any event, unless you are capable of doing the work yourself, the bike is beyond economical repair ie. a write off.

Thanks chaps any idea on the price of repair.

2.5K to 3K. if you're paying for labour......circa a grand if doing the work yourself.

Get a telescopic magnet or similar and stick it into the bottom of the swingarm/oil tank......post up a pix of what it looks like when you take it out.

Blimey,what can you do to avoid that happening or is it just inevitable?

From my limited understanding most XBs are a ticking time bomb
However mine has done 22,000 miles so far!
Have added free spirit tensioner at 4,000 miles.
Change primary and engine oil every 1,000-2000 miles
Grease nipple fitted.
Checked worm gear on oil pump.(Not upgraded as yet)
Always warm up engine before revving up.

They aren't all going to have problems .....some will some won't but you can reduce the chances of some failures happening ............... read the forum because out of the visitors to Em's do yesterday at least two had problems due to well know potential problems ....one tuber due to failed oil pump drive and another Tuber due to running it's drive belt too tight . At least two more tubers had too tight a belts yesterday as well.
For an XB fit the free spirits tensioner ........... for tubers and XB make sure you have the upgraded oil pump drive gear and fit the grease nipple mod to the output shaft bearing.
Regular oil changes.
And treat them with a bit of respect ...... remember they are still an aircooled pushrod engine

Shrugs off stones/chippings etc, with no guards fitted, with no damage to the pulleys or belt unlike the AST which is looking like it's been grit blasted, with all the shite thrown up from the front wheel .Damn highways authorities to blame "road dressing" my arse .
