Post subject:  XB12S exhaust "upgrade"

Hi All...

I have recently replaced a can to Akrapovic.
Didn't do anything to intake, engine, I am not sure if anything needs to be done, I'm new to this, to bikes and modifications.
Does the ECU need any remapping ?
Bike is 05 reg., I'm also looking to replace air filter to K&N soona s well.

Is the bike going to be affected? Does anything need adjustment, replacement?

Many thanks for all your help.

Bless

A member of what??

As i said, I'm fairly new to bikes, this beast is my first bike after 4 months on Varadero 125cc so not sure exctly what to expect especially that this does not work nothing even close to my mates jap. bikes.

What I have noticed is that when I fully open the throttle then it feels like it gets maybe too much fuel and start like jumping, sometimes there is a blueish flame comming out from the can when revs are dropping but I guess this is normal with this kind of exhaust, wright?

Part of the problem may be if you are trying to use the motor like a Japanese bike - it aint ! On the 45 degree lump you use the torque, not the horsepower.

If you want something like that, then you will be better off with a Rotax (1125) engined Buell ...

If you really are new to this then I don't think a Buell is the right bike to start learning (spannering) on. You would be better taking it to someone like Black Bear to get it checked out. If you don't have the funds for that then you definitely have the wrong bike. Just my POV :)

Can't say I've ever heard of anyone sticking an Akrapovic on a Buell before :?:

Kamil ,

When you change some things on the air intake/airfilter and exhaust stuff
you upsetting the ecm and also leaning out the fuel/air mixture more then it allready is.

So it is better if you take it to somebody that knows his stuff and can set things the right way for you!

Especially one that was previously fitted to a Honda

DrBuella - it is a model dedicated for a Honda. Has been fitted to a different XB before, never to a Honda.

Brother in buells - that is what I thought. I could give it to someone for an upgrades but where is the fun in doing that? It all feels better when you do it, you test it, you enjoy it ... That is my POV. Hopefully this and american forum will help :)

Sportster_mann - Thank for the advice. No, I am not looking to ride it like a japanese bike. My mate has a R6 and I do enjoy ridding mine much more than his. If I want change, I can always switch to his bike.

I am beeing carefull, if I get lost at some point, It should be easy to come back to manufacture setup.

Will keep you updated.

Many thanks everybody :)

Kamil,
I agree with you
its good to do the maintenance yourself ,i do all the work myself on the vehicles i have.
But for making changes in the program of a ecm ,it's a no go there for me!
I have allready enough troubles with the home pc and printer stuff :headbang:

So if you get it tuned for the muffler you use now ,or can do that yourself ,it is running a lot better in the end i think!
:yup:

I have a mate here in London who does professional car chiptuning, creating/changing maps, soft upgrades and I believe/hope we can make changes on the bike ourselves in the free time.
