Hi all, as the subject states, from start up (idle)the first 30 odd seconds is fine, then I can see black smoke from the exhaust, it then starts to Peter out, repreviosly I had replaced the O2 sensor (fault code 13) and the plugs, but this made no difference, I do have the ecmspy connected but need a little guidance.
The buell is a 2002 XB9S all standard and belongs to a close friend.
Any help appreciated.
Sean

Check on ecmspy if the Engine temp sensor is working correctly ie temp rising linearly as the engine warms up from cold . if it's giving an incorrect reading so that the ecu thinks the engine is colder than it really is it will add too much fuel .

Hi Kev, I've checked the temp sensor and seems to be fine.
Ok first run., just been out with the laptop in a backpack connected to ECM, results as follows
O2>0.75v = 0%
O2<0.15v=6%
Diff >0.45v
O2 rich 0%
O2 lean 80%
O2 error 20%
Avg. rich 0.44v
Avg. lean 0.32v
Afv rear (%) 100.0
Tps reset at 0.81 (the day before)
This riding at about 50 mph with the odd burst of throttle.

Second outing
O2>0.75v 0%
O2<0.15v 38%
Diff>0.45v 58%
O2 rich 54%
O2 lean 41%
O2error 5%
Avg. rich 0.64v
Avg. lean 0.02
Afv rear 110.8
Same riding style
On returning the rich smell had gone and had a much better idle.

Regards Sean

Update, been out twice today, both time the engine light came on, but went out after turning the bike off and on again.
But before the light came on, the engine started to sound a little rough on the over run and as you added a little throttle the engine 8 stroked if you know what I mean, and then the light came on, straight after the light came on the engine run fine, really fine.
Plugging the espy in and reading the error code and came up with O2 always lean.

Hi Gunter, sorry I would not know where to start to put a log file on here.
Had the buell here again today and seems to be running better but the light is still coming on with a code rear o2running lean.
Whilst watching the overview, you could hear the idle start to drop slowly, at the same time the EGO corr% climbed from about 112 to a peak of about 190 at the lowest point of idle ,there was a sudden jump to normal idle with the EGO corr% going back to about 112/114 and this would repeat itself.
Any ideas or is this normal?
