I have been riding my X1 for while now and touch wood nothing serious went wrong so far. I am pleased with fuel economy and performance as well.

However recently it started worrying me.
When starting from cold after ~20 min of riding on motorway it likes to misfire while at 3200-3300 rpm, when reving up runs well then engine warning light is comming on. Found if I slow down to 2000-2500 rpm after while light goes off and engine is going back to normal.
When commuting back again on motorway as above repeats. (NO sign of misfiring while at low revs and city speeds).
Initially I suspected water in oil (as it was puking mayo) - installed temporary catch can on breather hose - still the same.
Changed oil and filter - engine seems to work slightly louder but misfiring is still there.

Checked with ECMspy - no faults or error codes (even after heating and reving engine up to 165 degrees).
My next suspects - 1.engine temp sensor, 2. wiring earth fault, 3.fuel maps (as engine doesn't want to go above 4500 rpm easily) .

As you all can suspect it's not funny when you about to overtake and heart beneath you suddenly stops :o . Any clues welcomed :(

I have no knowledge of the fuel injected bikes.....but it sounds like fuel starvation to me..... :?

Chaffed engine temp wire?

I've already did TPS reset - must say engine was working like clockwork (appart from misfiring).
If that would be the case - do I need to change fuel maps? ECM says I've got map called "66" - assume that was done by HD Warr's in London.

Is there any source of ready made maps - standard/race etc?
I have some manual of tunning X1 found on internet - didn't wanted to touch it as I was happy with the way it was but it seems that it is time to read it.

Wire seems to be OK - however pulled out data from ECM:"historic" troubles:
1. Code 14 - ETS short to supply voltage,
2. Code 13 - O2 sensor always lean (on that note I found that fuel map for second cylinder is slightly leaner than first).

On a way to solve above :D

Just thinking out loud, have you checked obvious things like tank vent clear, fuel tap clear, filter not blocked, fuel pipes not kinked, pump delivering sufficient?....Like I say, I have no specific knowledge of the fuel injection systems on these but any of the above could cause issues and missfiring once the engines demand for fuel at speed outstrips it's supply :?

They do run like a bag of nails if the ETS does start to play up ;)

The ETS output looks like this (deg C as a function of speed)

Fitted new ET sensor yesterday (must say did not expect that much work with just one sensor),
(for all interested old one's resistance varried from 60-80kOhms new ETS steady 85.7kOhms - both at 17-20 degrees)
And ....
Steady temp rise noticed on ECMspy - after warming up TPS reset (obviously or just in case ;)
What a monster - revved engine up to 7000+ rpm!!!
Throttle response immediate - ooooo my world what a difference!!!
Just a bit of popping - but I don't mind - it helps with filtering

Next, loose mirror and front fork seal - that will be all for me and bike (for now) :D

Thanks Pash,

Just need to find some time this week - I've got seal and oil from black bear.
