I have read the book and it says To use Loctite 262 on the nut holding the pinion gear in place.

will Pro seal medium lock thread do the same job?

Loctite breakaway is 22 nm

Pro seal breakaway is 18nm

How accurate does this need to be?

I am no expert, but when I did mine I sourced a small bottle (this stuff is not cheap) but worth it just for the Pease of mind. After all the time, trouble, and expense of doing the job.

Hi Richie, thanks for the offer but I will buy some, I will have it for next time then. I was intending to do the job this weekend, can't find any Loctite locally but can get the Pro Seal in the morning.
