Post subject:  'Air temperature too high/Short to ground' CEL error code
Hi All, twice now over the space of a few weeks I have had this code. Code was cleared via ECMSpy after each reading.

'Air temperature too high/Short to ground' (DTC 15)

CEL goes on and then off shortly afterwards which leads me to think that the intake temp is too high. Two questions ....

1) Has anyone come up with a cold air solution for the 08/09 XB12X/XT that does not needs any ECM tweaking/attention?

2) Could a dirty (oily) air filter be a cause of this code?

I would think it is more likely to be a chaffing harness.

Thanks Pash. Would you know where the most common points are that the harness will chaffe on the Uly? I think I have pretty much got to a point where I am willing to put as much time (not money) into this bike to get it running properly and finding the source of these intermmitent CEL warnings may well be the begening and hopefully end of all those issues. Just want some trouble free riding for once in the 4 years Ive owned teh bike :( without having to fork out yet again.

Normally I would say the headstock, but the IAT goes to the ECM which is under the seat. I would track the harness. Maz will probably know the favourite places.

Have you tried another sensor in case it has broken down internally?

had a new sensor last year. Seems teh error has gone away but expect it will return at some point, possibly on a hot day. Will strip the airbox off and some of teh other bits undersneath this weekend so that I can get a good look behind the frame. Admittedly it does seem to play up more in wet weather which leads me to think that I have an exposed wire somewhere.
