Tried to start my S1 after a few months lay-up, with fully charged battery, lights on etc. press the starter button and after barely 1/4 turn of the starter and a fuse popped somewhere, no power now when ignition is on, battery is still fully charged, (although this drops from 12.5v down to approx. 3v when ignition is turned on) all obvious fuses intact, is it likely that the main contact breaker has blown, (which I have since tested for resistance and reads zero?)
Grateful for any suggestions

Oddly enough I wheeled out my S1 on Sunday the 11th to go on a charity run. It lives on an Accumate charger, petrol on, choke on, ignition on, lights ok press starter, a bit of movement then everything off, no lights etc. Have not had time to investigate yet but I was hoping it was catastrophic battery death when the heavy load was applied? Looking forward to the solutions.

If your battery voltage drops to 3v just by turning the ignition on then the battery is well and truly goosed.

"Happiness is a brand new battery" the S1's reputation for reliability saved, after all it's a consumable item!

:yup: Might be worth just doing a check of the charging voltage...just to make sure.

Spoil the bike and buy a Shorai ;) . From new, the big Yuasa on my Duc 1198 would hardly shift the motor past TDC (even with thick home made battery cables - the std Ducati ones were the first thing I binned ) It now spins up like a 2 stroke lOl (and protects the VERY expensive starter clutch ;) )
The only down side is you have to let the battery warm up a bit before you hit the button, to get full starting grunt - and I usually forget lOl
