Hi, I've got an X1 that had been converted at some time to run a Mikuni CV carb but retains the ecu. (R & R Customizing) I want to convert it all back to the standard fuel injection system as it has never felt very strong. Although I have fitted the injector manifold etc the fuel pump will not run and the engine light doesn't come on with the ignition. I have checked the fuses and the bulbs but before i go any further does anyone know is the RRC ECU is modified at all? With this conversion is there anything else that I will have to change back? Also someone cut the plug off the loom for the intake temp sensor which is intact, can I buy a plug for the sensor? Cheers. |

Sounds like a buggers muddle to me... The piecing it all back together; if it were me I would make the carb work properly, i.e. buy a Mikuni and an ignition unit such as this. This will give you very good results as I run it on my S1. Alternatively, its a case of trying a different ECM and a different fuel pump, loom and anything else that doesn't appear to be working. Have you checked continuity from the ECM pin for the Check Engine Light and the bulb itself? Likewise for the fuel pump? You are welcome to send me your ECM content (download with ECMSpy) and I will have a look to see if there is anything that has been changed. The plug; I am not sure where you would buy one easily apart from cannibalising another loom although it is a common item used on a lot of Fords. This manual may help. |

You'll find that R+R will have "doctored" the ecm so a new one will be required, some of the connector pins will have been removed. Same with the fuel pump, only the part which has the threaded portion for fastening/sealing to the tank will be there, along with the low fuel sensor. |

I had a quick look at the bike yesterday. I had a spare ECU and fitted that which turned on the engine light and fuel pump. (It does look like the RRC ECU has been modified to turn off the fuel pump and engine light circuits.) I had fitted a standard tank with fuel pump but I had never used it. (Must remember to use safety glasses when disconnecting the pressurized fuel line....) It eventually started after playing with the timing a bit. Today I hope to get the timing sorted. Thanks for the help. Is there anyone near Lowestoft Suffolk who is proficient with the ECM spy thing? |
