The ECM Spy journey is going well. I've built a couple of bluetooth TTL modules, done some data logging with ECMDroid and looked at the logs cross referenced with the fuel and timing maps in megalogviewer. One thing I am finding is that after resetting the AFV to 100, it consistently returns to 85, which if I am right suggests the rear fuel map is slightly rich for the normal conditions I ride in? Comparing the stock American 2008 XB12 maps to mine, they seem to be slightly leaner all round, as well as having much less deceleration fuel cut. I know the US bikes have different headers to the European ones, but are there any other differences to explain the leaner fuel maps? My bike (2008 XB12XT) also has slight surging between 3000+4000 rpm at 25-35% throttle. Looking at megalogviewer of my data logs I can see that under those conditions the fueling is right on the edge of the closed loop and open loop area. So I suspected that the O2 sensor was causing the surge. However when I disabled closed loop in ECMSpy, the bike ran much better in that area but the surge was still there (although no where near as noticeable), so I suspect there may be a small hole in the fueling for emissions reasons in the area of the map?

I've not made any major changes yet, but I'm certainly getting a feel for how the bike is running.

I have seen this AFV issue before on 08/09 bikes but not had time to play too much however the finger points to an ignition timing issue and probably badly machined crank web...

I've got some maps you can try which have given very good results...

That would be great Pash, I'll send you an email from my gmail account, as my normal one is still playing up.

I'll be watching this thread because everything you're saying matches my 09 XB12Scg!

I'm making progress. I've tried several different EEPROMs tried, and maps from other EEPROMs copied into the stock BUE2D one to test how the bike runs and feels with them. There may be something that will help you too once I've finished testing. Pash is going to send me some maps over to try too. So with all the material and information available we should be able to at least improve things if not solve them.
