I am in the process of building a café racer from my 2003 M2 Cyclone. A couple of queries that someone might have answers to. Firstly I want to replace the drive belt system with a chain and sprockets. I am happy with the standard gearing so want to replicate this. What number of teeth do I need on the front/rear sprocket? Any advice on sourcing these?
Secondly I want to retain the standard wheels but put a double front disc on the bike. I want a new pair of discs, brembo/EBC or similar. Anyone know what I can fit with the right diameter, offset and hole pattern? (I will be using a couple of brembo calipers from a 996 Ducati). Cheers.

The standard sprockets are:
29/55 for Europe
27/61 for US (this is the preferred setup)

As for discs, I got EBC to make me up a set with a 280mm diameter (I'll double check on diameter) and made some brackets up for Brembo calipers. I'll post pics.

Lots of choices available for sprockets, front and rear. Make sure you use a new front sprocket nut tightened correctly. Bear in mind you'll not have any cush drive. the early chain drive Buells had a cush drive rear wheel.

Each to there own! After owning Buells for a good few years I have to say I don't miss oiling the chain cleaning the back wheel and adjusting the chain.
I don't miss the cost of new chains and sprockets either, having said that I have broken two belts in about 30000 miles, didn't get greasy changing them though!
I would strongly advise changing to an American ratio whichever route you decide to take, you'll most probably find you will gain top speed as Buells don't rev out on Uk gearing in top gear and have more fun getting there too :yup:

:yt: ...what's not to like about a clean, silent, maintenance-free belt? :?
Another consideration is the damage a chain will do to your swing-arm unless you run sprockets that are as large as the belt pulleys... most conversions I've seen use smaller front and rear (whilst still maintaining the chosen ratio) and the swing arm bears the scars.

Thanks very much for the advice and recommendations. I will aim for the US gearing. No concerns over the swingarm since I will be using a Ducati Pantah twin shock item.
Pair of front discs- the single unit at the moment is nissin. I am guessing that a later Lightning pair - pre rim mounted discs, would work ? I like the idea of some being made up by EBC, could be more attractive if fully floating. Any advice how to do this with EBC?
Cheers
