Hi folks,

Fork seals are leaking, so need to get the forks out to start with, so need to get them off the ground. Looking at this for the job:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Front-Stand-Head-Lift-Black-Motorcycle-Motorbike-racing-stand-/252036114441?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Next question is, should I rebuild them myself? I can do ordinary forks without making too much of a hash of it, but have never attempted USD ones. I bought a kit years ago to do my XB forks, but gave up and took them to the HD shop (which was a disaster, they reused the old seals). I can't quite remember why I gave up, I vaguely recall I needed to compress the springs, but didn't have the tools.

I recall being told to only use genuine WP seals as the other types leak. Or has yours had Showa forks fitted?

Fork seals may be NLA but I know that Maz has some...

Are they available through WP dealers?

One tip I've not seen anywhere (you probably already know this) is to undo the top yoke clamps and loosen the fork caps while they're still clamped in the bottom yokes. Common sense really, but often overlooked.

Yes, I also loosen the bottom nut on ordinary forks while they're still clamped in the yoke :P

Still have WP forks. Dang it, I've just ordered these:

Thanks, I'd already found that, in fact I asked my original question after reading it. It all looks good in theory, when using all the proper factory tools and being done by a trained mechanic who does that sort of thing every day in a nice clean workshop. My question is, can an average muppet with no special tools do it in his garage, or am I asking for trouble :?:

I didn't know Showa and WP used the same seals? Perhaps the Ebay seller is mistaken? I looked at this page -

http://www.wp-group.com/en/dealers/

It shows four WP dealers in Oz, but three are in QLD, where the fourth one is I didn't look. Might be worth a call though?

S1 WP are 40mm
X1 Showa are 41mm

They might leak oil :run:

I'll send you some genuine WP seals if you get stuck.

The fourth one is in Welshpool, which is a suburb of Perth, not very far away, cheers :yup:
